Here at MISSION we think that trials has a bright future and with a little more backing and maybe some TV coverage it could soon be one of the most popular sports out there.........
Here's hoping!
Many people think that trials is a recent phenomenon but they would be wrong. Trials has been around for many years and in the early days Trials bikes were designed for motor cycle trials riders to use for practising on when they couldn't ride their motor bike.
The trials bikes were first designed by a company called Monty who were the first to bring out a purpose built bike which mimicked its motorised brother and came complete with a sump plate mounted to the under side of the bike just like a motor bike. It was primarily a 20" bike but as mountain bikes started to become popular a 26" bike was also developed.
As it gained in popularity competitions were held just for the push bikes and from there they branched out and became an entirely new sport that riders of almost any age could enjoy.
Until quite recently cycle trials was relatively unheard of in this country and the bikes had to be bought from shops that mainly dealt with motor cycle trials and parts were hard to get hold of - but with the popularity of mountain bikes being used for trials, bike companies started to design frames that could be adapted as trials bikes.
As these became popular they decided to release specific trials bikes so that you could walk into your local bike shop and buy a complete trials spec bike - and with all the recent coverage from videos and regular magazine articles there has been a trials explosion and it is not uncommon to see riders out on the streets hopping up walls and jumping gaps with ease.
